A blurb about our campground

We went to Sir Winston Churchill campground. It is a provincal park on an island; neat idea. It's a huge island with a forest that is over 150 years old, needless to say, beautiful. The sites were of moderate size, we set up 2 tents, a tiny tent for the kids to play in, had 2 vehicles and our eating area and firepit area, and we still had lots of room.
The 'park ranger' so to speak (she ran the store, campground and delivered the wood), was a real sweetheart. The store had yummy ice cream and the showers were free.
Having said that, there was only one set of flush toilets and they were quite a walk from our site. The beach was gorgeous, the sand was nice and white. We weren't able to swim though, not only was it rainy and cold but there were signs up saying that the water was contaminated with fecal matter....YUCK! So we pretty much avoided the beach. There were nice playgrounds, but a lot of litter. For a provincal park I would've expected a little more care.
We went on a gorgeous hike. This island is known for it's dense population of birds. On our hike we saw 2 woodpeckers.
I think I would go back if it were closer to Edmonton (2 and a half hours away, and it was a bit long with Carter and Tyson and no dvd player, and Tyson using the excuse that he had to pee so we would pull over onto the side of the road almost every half hour). I would also go back if it weren't contaminated. The forest was beautiful, and it truely gave me a sense of being home (if only there were mountains).
